Aramco Malaysia Donates USD 200,000 to Support Yayasan Hijau Malaysia (YHM) Sustainability Efforts

On 10 December 2024, Aramco Malaysia contributed USD 200,000 to Yayasan Hijau Malaysia (YHM), an agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES). This initiative aims to educate school children about the importance of plastic waste management and the protection of marine biodiversity, fostering environmental awareness among future generations.
This initiative, titled ‘Climate Combat Program’ will span two years across three states, consisting of three main activities: engaging school roadshows, organized beach cleanup, and impactful coral reef planting efforts.
The cheque was presented by Mr. Ayman M. Hoho, Managing Director of Aramco Malaysia, to Ms. Shahrinaz Maamor, Acting CEO of Yayasan Hijau Malaysia (YHM), in the presence of H.E. Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) and Chairman of YHM.
This initiative seeks to engage 30 schools and 20,000 students across three states in Malaysia, raising awareness about sustainable plastic usage practices. Additionally, it includes the transplantation, monitoring and maintenance of 300 coral fragments, along with a beach cleanup activity involving 300 volunteers, comprising public members, local community members and Aramco employees.
‘Aramco Malaysia’s support for this program underscores our strong commitment to raising awareness among youth and wider community about the critical need to protect, conserve, and restore coastal ecosystems and marine life. Through this initiative, we aim to inspire future generations to embrace environmental stewardship, creating a lasting positive impact on our planet’s sustainability’, said Mr. Ayman M. Hoho, Managing Director, Aramco Malaysia.
This collaboration between YHM and Aramco underscores a shared commitment to safeguarding Malaysia’s natural heritage and empowering future generations to take meaningful action against climate change.
“Achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 is an ambitious goal that requires collaboration across all sectors. Programs like Climate Combat play a vital role in this journey by educating the next generation and implementing practical solutions to address environmental degradation,” stated H.E Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
