Bringing STEM Education Closer to Underserved Communities

News|Perak, Malaysia|
Access to quality STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education remains uneven across Malaysia, particulalry in rural and underserved communities. To help bridge this gap, Aramco-PINTAR Mobile Learning Unit programme was organised by PINTAR Foundation (PINTAR), sponsored by Aramco and with the support from the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), which successfully reached underserved schools and communities in Peninsular Malaysia. Between September 2022 and December 2024, the mobile learning unit travelled to 13 states in West Malaysia, and successfully reached 100 primary and secondary schools, benefitting more than 60,000 students and over 1,000 teachers. This initiative was introduced to overcome geographical and resource based barriers to education, ensuring students, regardless of their location, have equal access to learning opportunities. One of their main challenges faced in some of the schools is the lack of interest amongst the students in STEM education. Therefore, by introducing STEM education in a fun and engaging method related to sports, the students found it more relatable and easier to understand the fundamentals of STEM. The mobile learning unit was furnished with digital learning devices, STEM experiment kits, VR & AR learning modules, E-learning platforms and gamified lessons and internet connectivity for remote learning access. Ms. Norzalina Masom, General Manager, PINTAR Foundation,  “Hands-on learning empowers children to explore, experiment, and discover — turning curiosity into confidence. It’s these early, tangible experiences that lay the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.”

“We recognize that education drives economic and social progress, and communities create value by developing the next generation of skilled youth. That’s why our outreach programs focus on building STEM competency and creativity in younger generations.”, notes Mr. Ayman M. Hoho, Managing Director of Aramco Malaysia.
