Fostering Environmental Awareness Amongst Future Generations

The second phase of Mangrove Forest Ranger (MFR) programme was successfully completed on 11 September 2024. Launched in 2023 for primary and secondary schools, the program will run until 2025 across the Kota Tinggi district, aiming to engage students and teachers through a diverse range of educational activities, awareness programs and hands-on field initiatives.

A total of twelve (12) schools across Kota Tinggi District, Johor participated in the program. The participating schools are SK Pulau Tanjung Surat, SK Tunjuk Laut, SMK Tan Sri Jaafar Albar, SK Mawai, SK Datuk Usman Awang, Kompleks Sekolah Telok Sengat (SK Telok Sengat, SJKT Ladang Telok Sengat, SJKC Nan Ya), SMK Bandar Mas, SMK Pengerang Utama, SK Bandar Penawar 2, SJKC Peay Min, and SK Bandar Penawar.

In 2024, the program reached a total of 3,217 students, teachers, and community members. Initiatives like this serve as vital platforms for knowledge sharing, community building, and fostering a deep appreciation for mangrove conservation at the grassroots level. Fostering a sense of responsibility for environmental conservation from an early age is crucial for building a more sustainable future.

Hoho, Managing Director of Aramco Overseas Malaysia, emphasized the programme's alignment with broader sustainability goals: "With the continued support of all stakeholders, we are proud to carry out such a meaningful programme. This effort not only reflects Aramco’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community development, but also empowers students and teachers to become champions of mangrove conservation. By nurturing environmental stewardship at the grassroots level, we are investing in a more sustainable future.”

Scheduled for completion in 2025, the programs aim to involve 13 additional schools across the Kota Tinggi district, continuing its mission to integrate educational awareness, ecological restoration, and community empowerment.”
