At Aramco, sustainability is embedded in how the company operates and creates long-term value. Building on Saudi Aramco’s longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship, biodiversity protection, and community development in Saudi Arabia, these efforts are extended beyond national borders. Aramco Malaysia’s initiatives reflect broader sustainability principles — protecting natural ecosystems, empowering local communities, and contributing positively to the environments in which the company operates.
In collaboration with the Tiger Protection Society of Malaysia (RIMAU), Aramco Malaysia is supporting one of the country’s national conservation priorities: protecting the Malayan tiger (Panthera tigris jacksoni), a species classified as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. This two-year partnership, which commenced in October 2025, focuses on safeguarding the greater Korbu landscape in Perak — a critical biodiversity area and habitat for the Malayan tiger.
Community involvement is essential to the success of tiger conservation. Local awareness, participation, and collaboration play a crucial role in protecting habitats, reducing poaching risks, and ensuring long-term preservation of the species.
With fewer than 150 Malayan tigers estimated to remain in the wild, urgent and sustained conservation action is critical. Beyond its ecological importance, the Malayan tiger holds profound national significance. Featured on Malaysia’s Coat of Arms, it symbolizes strength, courage, and dignity — representing not only a species at risk, but also a powerful emblem of national identity and pride.
On 17 December 2025, the partnership was launched through the Ap Muda Program, an educational and awareness initiative held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bawong in Sungai Siput. The program aimed to educate younger generations from local communities about the importance of protecting the Malayan tiger and preserving the greater Korbu landscape.
The initiative engaged 101 students, 22 teachers, and two volunteers. In addition to conservation education sessions, students received school bags filled with essential supplies in preparation for the 2026 academic year — reinforcing the connection between environmental awareness and community support.
Continuing this integrated approach, the Back-to-School Program was implemented on 26 January 2026 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pos Piah, Sungai Siput, Perak. A total of 130 students received essential school supplies to support their new academic year. Located near mountainous terrain within the Pos Piah area, the school is situated close to important forest ecosystems connected to the greater Korbu landscape.
Through this initiative, students were not only equipped with learning necessities but also introduced to the vital role they can play in safeguarding Malaysia’s natural heritage. This program reflects Aramco’s holistic sustainability approach — where environmental stewardship, education, and community well-being intersect to create meaningful and lasting impact. We extend our sincere appreciation to RIMAU for their partnership and dedication. Together, we are supporting future generations while strengthening conservation efforts to protect one of Malaysia’s most iconic species.
